What’s YouTube Playables?
Playables, a collection of YouTube mini-games, can be accessed via the web browser on your desktop or through the YouTube app on your smartphone.
As of this writing, Playables features 40 mini-games, all of which do not require any download or installation to begin playing. The games are divided into 8 gaming genres, mostly with a focus on Arcade and Brain & Puzzle games.

A lot of these games have been developed by famous game developers, like Aim Lab, Arkadium, Famobi, FRVR, Vodoo, and Nitro Games. Some of these developers are popular due to their free HMTL5 games. So, you can actually play some of the games mentioned above outside YouTube Playables via the official website of the game developer or through 3rd-party sites such as HTML5 Games.
Who Is Allowed to Play Playables on YouTube?
Playables is an experimental feature on YouTube. Only YouTube Premium members are able to test experimental features, so the mini-games are only accessible to YouTube Premium subscribers. Also, this means those using YouTube Kids accounts can’t access the section while the kid-friendly nature of all of the mini-games in the collection.
Suppose you’re considering whether YouTube Premium is worth it for access to Playables and all of the other premium features. In that case, our suggestion is to skip the annual subscription and opt for the monthly subscription instead. This is due to the fact that the Playables feature will only be accessible until the 28th of March 2024. It may be canceled completely if it does not be a feature after that day.
How to Access YouTube Playables?
If you were not informed about the feature yet as a Premium subscriber, you can try to get access to Playables simply by activating experimental features inside your YouTube app.
To turn on Playables, launch the YouTube app, and head over to the You section in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Next, hit the gear icon to open the settings menu and select the Try experimental new features option. You will see all of the available experimental features. Locate Play games on YouTube and select the Try it out option.
As soon as you have activated YouTube Playables, you can access the games via the Explore tab on YouTube. If you are using a web browser, the Explore section should be available easily. If you are using a smartphone, hitting the compass icon in the upper right corner of the screen will bring up the Explore section where Playables is listed.
Or, you can just scroll through the YouTube main page, past Shorts and Breaking news until you come to the Playables on YouTube section. Then, you can click on any of the 40 mini-games accessible to start playing.

Just like YouTube, TikTok and Netflix have added mini-games to their platforms too. YouTube differs in that it requires no download or installation to play the mini-games. This level of convenience could appeal to more casual gamers on the platform, leading to higher user engagement and time spent on YouTube Playables.
